Charles (Chuck) Lewis Lyon

WILMINGTON — Charles (Chuck) Lewis Lyon, 63, of Wilmington, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012. He fought a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. He was at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Chuck was born in New Haven, Conn., Dec. 1, 1949, son of Erwin Lyon and Julia (Bassett) Lyon. He grew up in Woodbridge, Conn., and graduated from Amity High School. He lived with friends and worked for several years in New Haven and West Virginia, before settling in Wilmington, N.Y. He found the North Country to be the place he loved the most and where he would make his home and live a good life.

He married Paula (Cooper) Lyon in 1983 and they raised their two daughters, Grace and Julia, in Wilmington. Most important to Chuck was his family and their life together, both at home and away. They shared adventures and experiences during family trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Florida, and annual summer vacations on Martha's Vineyard.

For years, in spring and the fall, he made trips to help open and close his brother Bill's camp in Maine and to share good times with old friends. He enjoyed many hours, accompanied by his dog Lucy, down by the west branch of the AuSable River which runs behind his home.

Since 1988, Chuck was a partner owner of Young Lyon Floor Covering & Hardware in Lake Placid, N.Y. Chuck's carpet and tile installations and his presence at the hardware store introduced him to many families and businesses in the North Country. He was well liked and respected throughout the community. He was an excellent craftsman, with an artist's eye. He applied his many skills to business endeavors and projects at home.

Chuck is survived by his wife Paula; his daughters, Grace and Julia; his sister, Jennifer Ruggiero and her family; and his brothers, William and Robert and their families. These families include seven nieces along with many grandnieces and grandnephews. He will be missed by many loved ones, family members and friends.

There will be calling hours at M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home, 2310 Saranac Ave, Lake Placid 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27. A funeral service will be held at the Whiteface Methodist Church in Wilmington at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 28. A reception will follow at the Whiteface Range Hall in Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department District 1 at 1197 Haselton Rd., Wilmington, NY, 12997 or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA, 90266.
