MOOERS — Marie A. Guay, a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend with a heart of gold and a love of family, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. She was 50.
Marie was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Oct. 11, 1960, to Gerald and Christine (Barre) Trombley.
Marie grew up in Ellenburg on her parent's dairy farm and was taught the value of hard work at a young age. She worked for Yankee Farm Credit in Chazy for more than 25 years. She was dedicated to her work and the farmers she served and was well respected in the agricultural community.
She met her husband, Donald when he was unloading hay for her father on the farm. They were married May 3, 1980. They welcomed their first son, Robert, in 1982 and their son Kevin was born in 1984. They operated a dairy farm on the Lavalley Road in Mooers for more than 20 years.
Marie was a devout Catholic and was very involved with St. Joseph's Church in Mooers, where she taught religion classes for several years and was frequently a reader.
Marie enjoyed traveling with her husband and they took several trips each year to watch NASCAR races. Jimmie Johnson was her favorite driver.
For the past six years, Marie played an integral role in the annual Plattsburgh Relay for Life. She began as a team captain and spent the last couple years leading the survivor's tent. She was incredibly proud of her work with the Relay and spent countless hours of her time each year preparing and carrying out the event, which raises money for cancer research.
There were few things that made Marie more proud than the accomplishments and achievements of her two sons and she often beamed with pride when speaking about them to friends or co-workers. For years when her children were young, Marie was involved with the Boy Scouts, leading her sons and other area children on adventures in the region.
Marie's kindness, selflessness and caring spirit will undoubtedly be missed throughout the North Country.
Marie is survived by her husband, Donald of Mooers; her son, Robert and his companion, Rachel Dutil of Champlain, her son, Kevin and his companion, Erika Grayson of Chazy; her father, Gerald Trombley and his companion, Nancy Bronson of Ellenburg; her sister, Doris Trombley of Mooers, her sister, Andrea Rabideau and her husband, Dale of Cannon Corners; and her brother, Gerald Jr. of Churubusco.
She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Therese Guay of Mooers; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews; and friends.
Her mother, Christine Trombley; and her sister, Darlene Trombley; and her father-in-law, Rolland Guay, died before her.
