Charles F. "Chuck" Wood

SARANAC — Charles F. "Chuck" Wood, 63, of the Wilson Road, Saranac, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.

He was born in Plattsburgh, August 29, 1949, the son of the late, Oliver and Delima (Trombley) Wood. Chuck, as he was fondly referred, graduated from Saranac Central School. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Army and served proudly until his honorable discharge in 1972. He began his career with the NYS Dept. of Corrections in 1978 and worked until his retirement in 2006.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 1618 in Saranac. Chuck loved life, and people. He enjoyed having a good time with family and friends, and will be remembered for his ability to make people laugh, and the fact that he was always "fixin to make someone smile". That unique saying Chuck had will be remembered and recited by many, for many years to come. He will not be forgotten. Chuck was also an avid Harley rider, golfer, and Airborne race fan.

Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Eileen (Lucia) Wood, whom he married August 11, 1984 in Dannemora; children, Cyle Wood and wife Kristen of Happy Valley, Ore., Stacey Bushey of Dannemora, and Joel Wood of Saranac; beloved grandchildren, Andrew Cutaiar, Allison Cutaiar, Samuel Bushey, Brayden Wood, and soon to be granddaughter, Brooklyn Wood, expected to join her family May of 2013; step-grandson, Tony Bushey; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Joyce Wood of Peru; sister, Christine Wilson of Saranac; Eileen's siblings, Betty Lucia of Plattsburgh, Daniel Lucia and wife Anna of Dannemora, Nancy Liberty and husband Steven of Chazy Lake, James Lucia and wife Cheryl of Dannemora, Jeri Bennett and companion Kevin Bullis of Plattsburgh, and Cindy Blair and her husband James of Dannemora; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was predeceased by a special aunt, Leda Vann.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at the Church of the Assumption in Redford with Rev. Donald F. Kramberg, parish pastor, celebrating. NYS flag presentation and military honors will follow the Mass, inside of the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Autism Alliance of Northeastern NY, P.O. Box 1884, Plattsburgh, NY 12901, or the North Country Cancer Fund, 484 Wallace Hill Road, Plattsburgh, NY, 12901.

Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru.
