Violet V. Patnode

SOUTH GLENS FALLS — Violet V. Patnode, 86, formerly of Lamplighter Acres, peacefully ended life, on Monday, March 4, 2013, at Pleasant Valley Health Care Facility in Argyle. Born on July 19, 1926, in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Mabel (Downer) Gilligan. On December 25, 1958, she married Francis "Pat" Patnode in Tupper Lake.

Violet was a waitress at the Blue Anchor Restaurant in Tupper Lake during her younger years and then later worked at the Oval Wood Dish Factory. She then was employed for many years at the Veteran's Hospital, also in Tupper Lake.

Violet was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora, St. Mary of the Lake Church in Florida and St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls. Her enjoyments included wintering in Florida, bowling, golfing, dancing, crocheting and baking. Most of all, she enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and summers at Little Wolf Lake and in her later years in Lake George.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, William Smith; her brother, Earl Gilligan and her son-in-law, Todd Carpenter.

Violet is survived by her husband of 54 years, "Pat" Patnode of South Glens Falls; her daughters, Erla S. Miller and her husband, Michael of Lake George, Peggy Beierle of South Glens Falls and Betti-Jo Film and her husband, Terry of South Glens Falls; her grandchildren, Derek Java and his wife, Carrie, Tracy Bender and her husband, Mark, Timothy Oakley and his wife, Beth, Collin Patnode and Jessica Oakley-Logan and her husband, Dave; five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Brynleigh, Sawyer, Dahlia and Declan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at St. Michael the Archangel Church on Saratoga Avenue in South Glens Falls., with Rev. Tony Childs, pastor, officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow at 12 Noon at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Veteran's Cemetery in Stillwater.

Violet's family suggests that memorial donations in her memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association Northeastern New York Chapter, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.

Her family wishes to thank the staff at Pleasant Valley Health Care Facility, for the kind and compassionate care given to Violet and her family.

She was born Aug. 14, 1918, daughter of the late Cassius and Eliza (Farr) Coakley. Fern attended and graduated from Mooers Central School. She married Glenn Elwin Parrott of Chazy on Dec. 31, 1940. They lived in Mooers until 1989, moving to West Chazy.
