Lorraine E. Orr

MOOERS — Lorraine E. Orr, 84, of Mooers passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. She was born July 3, 1928 the daughter of Edward and Pauline (Pryor) Bell.

She was a 1946 graduate of Ricker Classical Institute in Holton, Maine. She drove farm equipment on the family potato farm, she was a mail truck driver for the U.S. Postal Service in Monticello, Maine. She was a school monitor at Mooers Elementary and she wrote a news column North Countryman about hometown news in the town of Mooers. She was a horse riding club member in her younger years living in Maine, she was a member of U.M.W. and the Eastern Star as well as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Lorraine had several interests and hobbies, she was an avid reader/armchair scholar. She was a wealth of information for her family members. She loved gardening and flowers, and adored all animals. She could play piano by ear. She wrote poetry and she used to write to deployed service members.

Lorraine was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Willard "Bill" Orr, whom she married August 11, 1951 in Monticello, Maine; one son, Steven Orr; one grandson, Christopher J. Orr; a brother and sister in law, Alfred and Betty Bell; a sister in law, Janet (Orr) Lee and her husband Jim.

Survivors include, two sons, Karl Orr and his wife Nancy of Ellenburg Center, Randy Orr and his wife Julie of Champlain; her grandchildren, Ed and Karisa Orr of Plattsburgh, Mathew Orr of Rouses Point; one great grandson, Christopher Robert Orr of Plattsburgh; a brother in law, Dr. Robert and Joyce Orr of Burlington, Vt.; a sister in law, Helen R. (Orr) and her husband Harold Hinderlite of Pennsylvania.

Calling hours will be from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, at the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers. A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the Ross Funeral Home. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Mooers in the spring.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mooers Animal shelter.
