Craig D. Ormsby

SCHUYLER FALLS — Craig D. Ormsby, 58, of Lindy Lane, Schuyler Falls, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Plattsburgh, Dec. 14, 1954. Craig grew up in Schuyler Falls and graduated from Peru Central School in 1973. He later graduated from Husson College in Bangor, Maine, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Pi Fraternity.

Craig wore many hats throughout his life of employment, including Ormsby Well Drilling where he worked with his father and brothers, owner and operator of Ormsby Sports World, and Ormsby Gun & Tackle, worked for the Clinton County Highway Dept., Anne Porter and Associates Realty, and lastly owned and operated Ormsby Realty in Plattsburgh with his wife, Annette.

Craig served as vice president of the NYS Association of Realtors, assistant manager and director of the Clinton County Fair, member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 1619, President of the American Legion Riders of Post 1619, and Director of the Plattsburgh Hog Chapter, and former president of the Clinton County Board of Realtors.

He had many hobbies throughout the years but auto racing was top on his list. Craig has been a race-car driver since his 20's. Following in the family racing heritage, he raced locally and traveled the circuit, throughout his adult life.

Survivors include his wife, Annette (Young) Ormsby of Schuyler Falls; children, Jenilee Marie Gillespie, and Evan Michael Ormsby; grandson, Tobias Thomas Gillespie; mother and step-father, Connie and Ross McGarr of Crystal River, Fla.; father and step-mother, Harold and Robin Ormsby of Schuyler Falls; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Jana Ormsby of Hudson, Wisconsin, Michael and Stephanie Ormsby of Peru, and Todd and Kerri Ormsby of AuSable Forks; sister, Lynn (Ormsby) Davis of Peru; aunt and uncle, Roland and Dottie Ann; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Howard and Jennie Ormsby of Schuyler Falls, Lenora Babbit Reyell, and William Babbit; mother-in-law, Shirley Marie Young; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Calling hours will be at 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 22, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Plattsburgh Church of the Nazarene, 187 Broad Street, Plattsburgh. A gathering will follow with details to be announced at the during the funeral.

He was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Champlain, the son of the late Emmett and Elsie (Allard) LaFontaine and was educated in Champlain schools. Russell served in the United States Army during World War II. He married the former Leona Dupee. Mrs. LaFontaine passed away in 1989.
