SARANAC — Gerald R. McKinney, 74, of the Chazy Lake Road, Saranac, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at his home. He was born in Plattsburgh, Feb. 22, 1939, the son of John and Erma McKinney. He entered the U.S. Navy, July 10, 1957, and served until his honorable discharge, December 11, 1967.
Gerald was an electrician at Courneene Electric in Plattsburgh for many years. He later worked for SW & B Construction Corporation for a brief period of time prior to retiring. Following retirement he owned and operated McKinneys Taxidermy in Saranac.
He was a member of the Lyon Mountain American Legion, the Saranac American Legion, and an honorary member of the Bradley Pond Hunting Club. Gerald enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping.
Survivors include his wife, Hattie Bernice McKinney of Saranac; children, Steve and his fiance Laura Nicholson, Kathy and her husband
Ricky Rabideau, John and his wife Dawn, and Sonya DuBrey; grandchildren, Bryan, John, Sarah, Amanda, Lindsay, Charlie, Ashley, Cierra, Christina, Bradley and Melody; great-grandchildren; brothers, John "Jack", and Donald; sister Joanne; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; granddaughter, Nicole Baker; and sons-in-law, Douglas DuBrey, and Bryan Callaway.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A prayer service and military honors will follow at 3 p.m. at the Funeral Home. A gathering will follow at the Lyon Mountain American Legion.
