Louise Mueller Johnson

PLATTSBURGH — Louise Mueller Johnson, 99, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in New York City on Sept. 9, 1913, the daughter of Karl and Sophie (Koch) Mueller. She lost both parents by the age of 8 and was raised by her two older sisters. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters, Caroline, Johanna and Kunigunde. Her devoted and beloved husband, Edgar "Eddie" Leggett Johnson, died in 1996.

After schooling in Manhattan, Louise was brought to Plattsburgh by her sister, Kuni, to attend Champlain Valley School of Nursing, graduating in 1937. She enjoyed working as a registered nurse at the former Champlain Valley Hospital and Physicians Hospital.

Louise was well known to many as an accomplished artist in both watercolors and oils. She sold hundreds of paintings throughout the North Country and primarily from the Adirondack Store in Saranac Lake. She participated in several local exhibits, winning several awards. Her beautiful artwork adorns the homes of her family and friends. She was a member of the Clinton County Art Association and also a member of the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church. After retirement, Louise and her husband traveled extensively throughout the world.

Louise was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her five children, Susan Aceto and her husband Tom of Ariz., James Johnson of Plattsburgh, Bonnie Lucas and her husband Gary of Plattsburgh, Elizabeth "Betsy" Herlihy and her husband Tom of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Scott Johnson and his wife Carol of Peru. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Aceto, Jonathan Aceto, Corey Lucas and his wife Stacie, Casey Herlihy and his wife April, Kari Herlihy, Katie Pelletier and her husband Jeffrey, Matthew Johnson and Gregory Johnson.

Memorial Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Louise will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Eddie in Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

He was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Champlain, the son of the late Emmett and Elsie (Allard) LaFontaine and was educated in Champlain schools. Russell served in the United States Army during World War II. He married the former Leona Dupee. Mrs. LaFontaine passed away in 1989.
