ELLENBURG CENTER — Evelyn M. Boyea, 92, of 12 Glenns Way, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at CVPH Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 4, 1920, in Forest, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Lydia (Pelkey) Benjamin.
Evelyn married Ivan Boyea on May 2, 1942, at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain. She was a member of St. Edmund's Church, the Catholic Daughters, and Altar Rosary Society.
Evelyn was very active in the church as a lector, Eucharistic minister and religious education teacher.
She was instrumental in starting the nutrition program through the Clinton County Office of the Aging in Ellenburg, retiring in 2005.
Evelyn enjoyed doing crosswords, crafting, gardening, watching sports and was a fantastic cook.
Survivors include seven children and their spouses, Charlene and Bill Dewey of Plattsburgh; Marlene and Vic Ovalle of Cadyville; Jay and Kim Boyea of Champlain; Paul and Christine Boyea of Chateaugay; Kevin and Sheila Boyea of West Chazy; Mark and Cindy Boyea of Scotch Plains, N.J.; Michael and Sheilah Boyea of Ellenburg Center; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Brian (Barbara) Boyea of Ellenburg Depot; sister-in-law, Jeannette Miller of Dannemora; 20 grandchildren, Matt, Chris Ian, Jeff, Jason, Jaime, Nathan, Amy, Brenda, Mick, Becki, Bob, Benjamin, Sierra, Chris Jamie, Elizabeth, Michelle, Ryan, Kelsey, Hilary, and Philip; two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Lucy. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Ivan, in 1977; two sons, the Rev. Ivan Boyea and Brian Boyea; a grandson, Aaron Boyea; as well as her siblings, Charles, Cletus, Mildred, Helen, Clarence and Irene.
Calling hours will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Rabideau Funeral Home in Ellenburg.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday in St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg.
Burial will be at a later date in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow at the Ellenburg Depot Fire Department.
