LYON MOUNTAIN — Lillian Edna Smith, 88, of Mountain Top Housing, Lyon Mountain, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home, Plattsburgh.
Born in Churubusco, N.Y., on July 17, 1923, she was the daughter of William and Bernadette Valley LaClair.
She was married to Donald Smith on May 19, 1947, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Churubusco. He predeceased her on July 16, 2006.
In her earlier years, Mrs. Smith was employed at various defense plants during World War II in Massachusetts. She and her husband owned and operated the family dairy farm in Ellenburg Center for many years before retiring in 1980. She was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Churubusco.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a brother, Oliver "Les" LaClair of Churubusco; a sister, Victoria Titus of Churubusco; a half-brother, William LeClair of Ellenburg Depot; a sister-in-law, Ula Smith of Ellenburg Center. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; and three brothers, Israel, Leo and John LaClair.
Calling hours will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Chateaugay Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 1 p.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Churubusco.
