Thelma P. Nephew

PLATTSBURGH — Thelma P. Nephew, 80, of Michaele Avenue, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Lyon Mountain on May 8, 1932 the daughter of Edward J. and Ella (Boyea) Secore.

She married Orville G. Nephew on May 28, 1949, at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain. He died April 1, 1986.

Thelma worked at many various jobs, but the one she enjoyed most were the years spent working for Plattsburgh Lanes, where she was instrumental in founding and organizing the Senior Bowling League. She also was very active with the Junior Bowlers. Thelma remained active in the Senior League until ill health forced her to stop bowling, but she continued to be secretary of the league until approximately four years ago.

She loved knitting and crocheting, and her beautiful handiwork was in high demand until the last year, when she could no longer do it. She also had a great love and compassion for cats and could never let a cat be cold or hungry, therefore, taking in many strays.

Survivors include her children, Noreen Barcomb and husband, Eudgere (Jerry) of Chazy, Michael J. Nephew of Plattsburgh, Suzette Pavone and husband, Richard of Plattsburgh and Jay A. Nephew of Houston, Texas; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lisa Barcomb Krier and husband, Heath and children, Michala, Jainna and Halle of Bixby, Okla., Lee Barcomb and wife, Christy and children, Sophie and Max of Chazy, Brandy Barcomb Juneau and husband, Bradley and children, Celine, Alain, Marin and Elias of Chazy, Casey Barcomb of Woodland, Calif., Nikki Darrah Martin and husband, Keith, and children, Brayden and Jillian of Plattsburgh, Christopher Darrah of Auburn, N.Y., Jenna Pavone and daughter, Alabama of Scotia and Marc Pavone and wife, Heather and children, Gabriel, Hunter and Grayson of Saugerties; one brother, Donald Secore of Fla. and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, from 1 to 3 pm at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home, in Plattsburgh.

Funeral services will follow in the Robert W. Walker Memorial Chapel. Entombment will be in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Plattsburgh.
