Mildred L. 'Millie' Gallagher

PLATTSBURGH — Mrs. Mildred L. "Millie" Gallagher, 96, formerly of 19 Olivetti Place, Plattsburgh, N.Y., passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility with her loving family by her side. She was born in Cadyville, N.Y., April 28, 1915, the daughter of William and Julia (Burnell) Duquette.

Millie married the love of her life, Kenneth Gallagher, on May 20, 1943. She owned and operated Millie's Beauty Shop for 40 years, retiring in 1976. In her retirement, Millie enjoyed traveling with her husband and wintering in Florida. She will be remembered for her beautiful rose bushes and is probably tending to them in God's garden now. Millie enjoyed going out to lunch with family and friends, playing pinochle, bingo, watching "Dancing with the Stars," Lawrence Welk, basketball and skating. She was a member of Senior Citizens of Plattsburgh, AARP, the Windy Towers Club and St. John's Church. She touched the hearts of many people. Always a lady, Millie was the matriarch of the family and will be greatly missed.

She was predeceased by her parents, William and Julia Duquette; her husband, Kenneth Gallagher; her brothers, Amos Duquette and his wife, Rose Ann, Morris Duquette and his wife, Viola; her sisters, Katherine Duquette, Doris Light, Margaret "Peg" Parker and her husband, Robert; a sister-in-law, Ruth Duquette; and a brother-in-law, Robert Light.

Millie is survived by a sister, Theresa Andre and her husband, James of Cadyville; her brothers, Clifford Duquette and his wife, Norma of Cadyville, Clarence Duquette of Cadyville, Burton Duquette and his wife, Marjorie of Cadyville; a special niece, Patti Gallagher of Plattsburgh; and many other nieces and nephews also survive her.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at St. John's Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
