PORT HENRY — Joan Iva McLaughlin, age 77, of Port Henry, N.Y., passed away peacefully the evening of Wednesday, Oct., 10, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Port Henry, N.Y., on Jan. 16, 1935, by her predeceased parents Ernest and Aileen Maple.
Joan was a former employee of the NY telephone company in Schenectady, N.Y. She was a devout Catholic that had taught Catechism along with singing in the church choir. Her great joys were bowling, playing pinnacle, crocheting, attending the yearly family reunion, and most of all spending time with her family and friends. Joan will be dearly missed by her family and will always be in their hearts.
Most importantly, she is a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her sister, Joyce L. King; her four children, Dean E. McLaughlin Jr. and wife Judy, Doug M. McLaughlin and wife Deborah, Denise M. Connors and husband James, Dan J. McLaughlin and wife Patty; along with 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Joan is also survived by cousins and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Dean E. McLaughlin, along with her sister, Florence Wojewodzic, and brother, Martin Maple.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial which will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, at St. Patrick's Church in Port Henry. A burial service will be held at Union Cemetery following the Mass.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad.
