Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr.

LAKE PLACID — Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr. 86 of Nash St., Lake Placid, N.Y., passed away Jan. 1, 2012, at his home with his family by his side.

Mr. Lamb was born in Lake Placid, N.Y., July 23, 1925, the son of Joseph Vernon and Elsie (Tracy) Lamb. He was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, Class of 1942. Mr. Lamb was a graduate of Dartmouth College where he earned his B.A. and B.S. and also was a graduate of Syracuse University where he earned his Master's in Forestry. Vernon was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the World War II era. He married G. Winifred (Everest-Ryan) Jan. 19, 1952, at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid, N.Y. He was former owner and president of Lamb Lumber Co. in Lake Placid, N.Y., retiring in 1991. Vernon's love for the outdoors, winter sports and the Lake Placid community was evident in his many accomplishments and the time he dedicated to various clubs and organizations in the Lake Placid area. Mr. Lamb was the first Lake Placid Native to become an Adirondack 46er 364, He was a Member of the Lake Placid Hall of Fame, United States Ski Hall of Fame, former member of the Lake Placid Olympic Organizing Committee, Past District Governor of the Lions Club, Past President of the Lake Placid Ski Club, Past President of the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Lake Placid Historical Society, former FIS Ski Jump Official, former ORDA Board Member and a former member of the Lake Placid Sports Council. He also participated in numerous activities for winter sports in Lake Placid.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Winifred Lamb, of Lake Placid, N.Y.; one daughter, Carol Ann Lamb and her close companion John Brown of Tupper Lake, N.Y.: three sons, Joseph Vernon Lamb III and his wife, Kathryn, of Lake Placid, N.Y., Tracy M. Lamb and his wife, Alicia, of San Diego, Calif., Thomas V. Lamb of Lake Placid, N.Y.:, one brother, Nash Lamb and his wife, Dana, of Prior, Okla., and two sisters, Claire Carey of Palmetto, Fla., and Eleanor Wild and her husband, Ted, of Lakeland, Fla. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Erin Horton, Emelie Lamb, Brian Lamb, Erik Lamb, Tynan McKillip, Kaleigh Lamb, Colden Lamb, Jackson Hunt-Lamb, India Hunt-Lamb and seven great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at the M.B. Clark, lnc, Funeral Home in Lake Placid with an American Legion Prayer Service at 6:45. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lake Placid, N.Y. The Rev. John Yonkovig will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery. Along with flowers.

The family suggests donations in memory of Mr. Lamb be directed to High Peaks Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 840, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
