---- — PORT HENRY — Dain Taylor Venne, age 29, of Port Henry, N.Y., was killed in action Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, in the Patkin Provence of Afghanistan while on a combat mission along with two Brothers in Arms. He was born May 28, 1983 in Ticonderoga, N.Y., the son of Brian and Laura (Harris) Venne.
Dain was a graduate of Moriah Central School, attended college at St. Lawrence University, Clinton Community College and Plattsburgh State University. Dain served one tour in Iraq and currently served in the 444th Engineering Company in Afganistan.
Between deployments he was employed by Kubricky Construction Co. of Glens Falls. He was a member of the Port Henry Fire Department.
Dain is survived by his parents Brian and Laura Venne; his girlfriend and soul mate, Kelly Bascomb of Cobleskill; one brother, Lucas and his partner JR of Port Henry; his little sister, Brianna and John Boyea of Moriah; maternal grandparents, Jack and Mary Harris of Port Henry, Paul and Mary Ann Bascomb and Katie and Steve Giangiordano of Cobleskill, N.Y.; and his best friend Brian Schofield of Tupper Lake. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins and friends.
He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents Vernon and Eileen Venne of Mineville.
Dain was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a great zeal for life. Above all he was proud to be a soldier.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday, Nov.12, at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, 11 A.M. at St. Patrick's Church in Port Henry. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Moriah.
