LYON MOUNTAIN — The Lyon Mountain Miners had an unlikely rally to win Game 1, 8-7, and then blanked the Tupper Lake Timberjaxx, 7-0, in Game 2 for a sweep of their Champlain Valley Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday.
Trailing 7-5 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Miners loaded the bases when Jamie Juntunen doubled, Cody Weaver reached on an error and Tom Kowalowski walked. A force out got the second out of the inning.
But Kyle Kowalowski walked to force in a run and the Miners then tied the game on a passed ball. When the throw to the plate following the passed ball got away, the game-winning run crossed the plate.
Weaver drove in two runs for the Miners and Justin Besaw was the winning pitcher in relief.
For the Timberjaxx, Josh Chapman rapped out three hits and scored three runs. Aaron Goldfarb added two hits and two RBI, and D.J. Barber drove in a couple of runs.
In Game 2, Besaw, Chris VanHouten and Nick Chase combined for a five-hit shutout, with VanHouten picking up the pitching win in relief.
Reilly Lawless and Scott Baker paced the Miners (4-0) with three hits apiece, with Lawless driving in three runs. Kyle Kowalowski, Juntunen, Jerry Kowalowski and David Waldron chipped in with two hits.
Five players accounted for a single each for the Timberjaxx (1-3).

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Cardinals (4-0) scored the lone run in Game 1 on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning and then rolled to a 13-0, 5-inning victory in Game 2 over the Fourth Ward A's.
Joe Kirkpatrick was the tough-luck loser in the opener for the A's. He struck out three and allowed only two hits — singles by Matt Leta and Tory Bouyea.
But the A's were unable to score off Cardinals' starter Tom Neale and Steve Burris, who pitched the seventh inning to get the win. Neale struck out 10 in going six innings.
In the bottom of the seventh, Nate Durkee walked with one out and Casey Buck ran for him. Buck stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored the game-winning run with two out on another passed ball.
Steve Livsey led the A's with two hits and Gus Terry added one.
It was a much different game in the nightcap. Bouyea led the Cardinals with three doubles, while C.J. Worley and Alex LaFountain had two hits apiece.
Winning pitcher Craig Bujold, who went the first four innings, and LaFountain combined on a 4-hitter. Four players had a hit each for the A's (0-4).
