Harold E. Carter

PLATTSBURGH — Harold E. Carter, 88, of Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility, formerly of Cumberland Head, passed away peacefully on Aug. 15, 2012, at the CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was born in Plattsburgh, the son of Walter and Mary (Lapointe) Carter.

He was a 1942 graduate of Mt. Assumption Institute and was a WWII Navy veteran, who served in the European Theatre and participated in the Invasion of Normandy.

On July 5, 1947, he married the former Mary E. Trombly at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was predeceased by Mary in 1997.

Throughout his employment he was involved in multiple construction projects in the Clinton County area. In 1962, he was appointed Clerk of the Works for the Expansion Project of the Plattsburgh State Teachers College. He then became employed by the General Services Administration. He was the Director of Federal Buildings in Northern, N.Y. until his retirement in 1995.

Survivors include; three sons, John Carter of Plattsburgh, James Carter and his wife Tina of W. Chazy, and Timothy Carter and his wife, Mary Anne of Plattsburgh; four daughters, Jill Champagne and her husband Robert of Plattsburgh, Pamela Hayward and her husband Robert of Shelburne, Vt., Beth Ducatte and her husband Stephen of Plattsburgh and Sally Sullivan and her husband Daniel, of Plattsburgh; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother, John E. Carter; and two sisters, Carmen Manfredo and Audrey Bouyea and one grandson, Seth Carter.

There will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh followed by burial at Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona, N.Y.

Arrangements are in the care of the R. W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court St., Plattsburgh.
