---- — Hospital Auxiliary selling pies for Thanksgiving
ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown Community Hospital Auxiliary will be selling pies for Thanksgiving.
Now in its eighth year, the Thanksgiving pie sale is one of the auxiliary’s most popular fundraisers. The auxiliary produces cherry, apple and pumpkin pies for purchase by community members. Each pie costs $14 and comes boxed and labeled.
Contact Jane Hooper at 873-3003 to place an order.
Last year, the group produced 98 pies.
“The pie-making process is quite a production,” Laura Sells-Doyle, auxiliary president, said in a news release. “But we really have an incredible, organized system. It’s quite an accomplishment to produce all those pies in only eight hours. This year, we’d love to sell well over 100 pies.”
Orders for pies will be taken until 3 p.m. on Nov. 16. Payment is due when the order is placed. Pies are made on Nov. 20 and may be picked up in the hospital lobby from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21.
The Elizabethtown Community Hospital Auxiliary participates in fundraising efforts throughout the year, and proceeds go to support the hospital. The group donates clothing and snacks to those who need emergency room care, offers care packages to chemotherapy patients and gives gifts and flowers to patients in the hospital at Christmas, provides scholarship funding and purchases equipment for the hospital.

Volunteers sought for Tax Aide service
PLATTSBURGH — Volunteers are needed for the tax season at AARP Tax Aide.
AARP Tax Aide assisted more than 3,000 Clinton County residents with free tax preparation and filing last year. The program offers free tax preparation at the Senior Center in Plattsburgh January through April for low- and middle-income taxpayers, with special emphasis on those over 60.
Help is needed to assist with income-tax preparation using an IRS-sponsored computer program. Other volunteers greet the taxpayer, make sure they have all their documentation and assist with the computer technology. The ideal volunteer is computer literate, well organized and enjoys working with others.
All volunteers must complete 30 hours of classroom training, which will be held in January. Beginner classes will be held this month and in December.
The greeters must like to work with people, be able to communicate effectively and make people feel at ease. The computer technical help must be able to help with both the software and hardware that support the program.
