Fatal snowmobile crash on Upper Chateaugay

DANNEMORA — One Franklin County man is dead, one remains hospitalized and another is facing a charge of driving a snowmobile drunk after a fatal accident late Friday night on Upper Chateaugay Lake.

At about 10:24 p.m., Plattsburgh-based State Police learned of the accident, which was in the vicinity of the Boomhower Road, just west of Lyon Mountain.

Everett J. Willis, 41, of Brainardsville was pronounced dead at the accident site by Clinton County Coroner David Donah, according to a State Police news release. An autopsy will be performed at a later date.

As a result of the preliminary investigation, Roger J. Wilcox, 43, of Brainardsville was taken into custody at about 12:16 a.m. Saturday and charged with misdemeanor operating a snowmobile under the influence of alcohol.

According to police records, the charge alleges Wilcox had a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08 percent.

He was issued an appearance ticket and released.

A third man, Todd M. Harrigan, 41, of Chateaugay, suffered multiple injuries in the accident and was transported to CVPH Medical Center, where was in stable condition Saturday afternoon.

Clinton County Fire Control received a call shortly after the accident Friday night in which it was reported that two people were unconscious.

No additional information on the accident was released Saturday as investigators continue to piece together how it happened.
