FELONY ARRESTS

CHAMPLAIN — A Merrick man was arrested Wednesday on multiple charges of felony theft.

On Wednesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Champlain port of entry encountered Erkut Aksoy, 58, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

During the secondary examination, additional record checks confirmed that Aksoy was the subject of an active arrest warrant issued out of Las Vegas for multiple charges of felony theft, according to the release.

Officers verified the warrant and confirmed extradition to Nevada.

Aksoy was arrested by Customs and Border Protection officers and was turned over to the custody of the New York State Police pending extradition.

CHESTERFIELD — Two New York City residents were arrested Sunday for alleged cocaine possession.

Keeseville-based State Police discovered an undisclosed amount of cocaine during a traffic stop on I-87 in the Town of Chesterfield at 9:39 a.m. Sunday, according to a State Police press release.

Nearly $5,000 cash was also found and seized by police.

Albert Colon, 38, and Rosamaria E. Nieves, 33, were both charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.

Colon and Nieves were both arraigned in Chesterfield Town Court and transferred to the custody of the Essex County Jail for failure to make bail, according to the release.

Keeseville-based State Police were assisted by Troop B Narcotic Enforcement Unit based in Ray Brook.

State Police request any suspicious drug activity to be reported to Troop B Narcotics Enforcement Unit at 897-2000.

PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man was arrested Feb. 8 for allegedly stealing checks from his mother and making them out to himself.

Dean M. Linsley, 55, allegedly stole 10 checks from his mother’s checkbook while she was in the hospital, Plattsburgh-based State Police said.

Linsley allegedly wrote the checks out to himself for a total of $539.56, police said.

He forged his mother’s signature on the checks, police said.

When police arrested Linsley, he was found to be in possession of 2.7 grams of oxycontin, police said.

Linsley was charged with 10 counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument, a felony; one count of petit larceny, a misdemeanor, and one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned in Schuyler Falls Town Court on Feb. 8 and sent to Clinton County Jail on $500 cash or $1,000 bond.

Linsley will appear in Plattsburgh Town Court to face the charges.
