Kite festival to be held
in Keene Valley Sunday
]KEENE — The fifth-annual East Branch Friends of the Arts Kite Fest 2012 will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 17, sharing Marcy Field in Keene Valley with the Farmers Market.
This year’s theme is “Kite Haiku.” Kite Fest participants are invited to share original haiku celebrating kites, fathers and related themes. Emcee Bob Andrews will read haiku and introduce local writers reciting their own work throughout the day.
Kite enthusiasts of all ages are invited to bring original, collectible and store-bought kites and banners to fly at this annual Fathers Day event.
Greg and Jackie Lamoureux of Sea Side Kites will have kites and wind gadgets for sale. DJ Fritz Sabbow will set a festive tone with lively music, and there will be food and beverages for sale by Green Point Foods of Keene Valley.
Bol races will have contestants running down the field, pulling giant half-spheres of colorful nylon kite material.
Admission is free.
Imaginarium Children’s
Museum plans programs
PLATTSBURGH — The Imaginarium Children’s Museum is a new, hands-on museum that is being developed where children can learn through play and families can experience the fun of discovery together.
The Imaginarium offers special Fun Friday programs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. throughout the summer: Summer Carnival on June 22, Star-Spangled Fun on July 6 and Story Character Night on July 20.
There are opportunities for children of all ages to learn and have fun, though most of the interactive exhibits and activities are designed for children age 12 and under. Children must always be accompanied by an adult.
Admission for Fun Friday events is $5 per person. Children under 2 are always free. The Imaginarium is located at 4709 Route 9 in Plattsburgh.
