Openings still available in Civil War Youth Camp
PLATTSBURGH — Back for a third year, Civil War Youth Camp is offered by the Clinton County Historical Association and led by Camp Director Matt Hewson.
This day camp for youth ages 9 to 14 provides hands-on immersion into the daily lives of Civil War soldiers and is held at CCHA museum at 98 Ohio Ave. on the Old Base.
Campers experience the process of becoming a soldier by enlisting in the Union Army, learning how to drill, undergoing inspections and trying period rations. Campers also learn the historical background of the soldiers’ lives they are experiencing. The goal of the camp is to give the participants an appreciation of the Civil War and the local men who fought and died in it.
There is a $10 registration fee to sign up for camp, and spaces are limited.
The Civil War Camp is funded in part by the Chapel Hill Foundation and Clinton County.
The first session runs July 10 to 13, and second session is July 17 to 20.
Call 561-0340 or email director15 each Thursday morning.
