Library hosting free movie night
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Public Library will be hosting a special free movie night at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18.
The featured film is a 2012 movie starring Jennifer Lawrence that is based on a book written by Suzanne Collins. The movie is rated PG-13.
Free bottled water will be provided for the audience.
Safety-seat clinic set in Tupper Lake
TUPPER LAKE — A child safety-seat clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Municipal park here.
Adults who are responsible for providing transportation for children of all ages are encouraged to attend. Technicians will be on hand to inspect seats, assist with installations, provide information and answer questions regarding child-seat safety.
The event is being sponsored by New York State Police Troop B, Adirondack Medical Center, the Tupper Lake Police Department and the Franklin County Traffic Safety Board.

Family-friendly event to benefit lake
MERRILL — The Chateaugay Lake Foundation is sponsoring some family-friendly events at Chateaugay Lake Saturday, Aug. 18.
Events include a 5K run and 1 mile fun walk, followed by a cookout and swim on the grounds of historic Camp Jeanne d’Arc.
Event-day registration begins at 8 a.m., with a 9:30 a.m. start for the run and 9:35 a.m. start for the walk.
The route extends along the southwestern shore of the Chateaugay Narrows.
A post-run cookout and swim from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. are included in the entry fee of $25 for adults, $10 for ages 11 to 18, $5 for children ages 5 to 11 and free for those under 5 years old.
There will be a raffle with many prizes.
Proceeds will benefit the foundation’s project to control Eurasian watermilfoil, an invasive aquatic plant that is threatening the lake.
