Child-safety seat clinic scheduled for Wednesday
RAY BROOK — New York State Police Troop B, Adirondack Medical Center and North Country Home Services will be hosting a child-safety seat clinic from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Troop B Headquarters.
Adults who are responsible for providing transportation for children of all ages are encouraged to attend. Technicians will be on hand to inspect seats, assist with installations, provide information and answer questions regarding child-seat safety.

BOP plans genealogy workshop
PLATTSBURGH — The Battle of Plattsburgh Association will be holding a genealogy workshop titled "Find Your War of 1812 Ancestors" from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the museum on Washington Street.
Talks will include an introduction to the genealogic process and an overview of the War of 1812.
Speakers will address record findings for the Battle of Plattsburgh and for the War of 1812 in general. Local information repositories will be discussed.
Registration starting at 8:45 a.m. and costs $10 per person.
The program is being supported in part by a grant from Honoring our Ancestors.

Knights gearing up for Northern Tier Food Drive
CHAMPLAIN — The Knights of Columbus Council 3525 Northern Tier Food Drive starts at 9 a.m. Oct. 14 and continues through Oct. 17.
Area residents are asked to help the Food Pantry, which serves Champlain, Rouses Point, Chazy, West Chazy, Mooers, Mooers Forks, Ellenburg and Altona, by donating a nonperishable food item. Items can be dropped off at Price Chopper, 860 Route 11, in Champlain; a Knights of Columbus table will be set up at the front of the store and a trailer will also be in the parking lot.
According to a press release, monetary donations are also much needed; $1 can provide 8 pounds of dry goods through the pantry.
Family Support Day planned
TUPPER LAKE — Parent to Parent of NYS will be holding a Family Support Day for parents and caregivers of individuals with disabilities on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Plattsburgh State.
Workshops will include navigating special-education services, record-keeping, understanding support and services under the state Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, understanding assistive technology and handling behavior challenges.

Parenting classes offered Mondays in Malone
MALONE — The Mental Health Association of Franklin County is planning a series of parenting classes to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays starting Oct. 17 at Holy Family School.
"Common Sense Parenting" classes are aimed for parents of school-age children. The six-week course will be taught by Danny Klebes.
