Origami workshops planned at NCCCA
PLATTSBURGH — Artisan Christian Rodriguez will teach the traditional Japanese art of paper-folding at two upcoming origami workshops at the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts, 23 Brinkerhoff St.
A workshop for adults and teens is planned from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9; cost is $20. A workshop for kids ages 7 and up will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 11; cost is $15. All supplies are included.

Malone woman Camping Photo Contest finalist
MALONE — A Malone woman was a finalist in the 2011 Camping Photo Contest, which showcased top images of New York's scenic outdoors.
In a news release, the New York state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and Department of Environmental Conservation announced that one grand prize winner and four finalists were selected from more than 1,200 photos submitted among six categories.
The grand-prize winner, Rolf Warncke of New Jersey, won a free weeklong stay at any state campground for his photo of a canoe at Rollins Pond. Weekend stays were also awarded to four runners-up: Amy Trudeau of Malone for her photo of Meacham Lake at sunrise; Laura Sullivan of Fort Drum for her photo of her son with his catch in the Adirondacks; Chris Podosek of Buffalo for his nighttime image of a tent at Treman State Park; and Melissa Benham of East Rochester for her photo of stone steps at Letchworth State Park.
