Don’t presume someone’s guilt in a case when it hasn't been established by a court.

Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

We monitor comments Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Approval of comments outside these times may be delayed.

State of the arts to be discussed

PLATTSBURGH — Vision2Action is holding a roundtable discussion on the state of the arts in Clinton County at 8 tonight on Mountain Lake PBS.

The discussion will be hosted by Thom Hallock, and participants will include some members of the Vision2Action committee: Devi Momot, president and CEO of TwinState; Stephens Mundy, CEO of CVPH Medical Center; and Colin Read, professor of economics at Plattsburgh State.

The mission of Vision2Action is to create a vibrant community where families can thrive. Identified as an essential component of a vibrant community, the arts is the first of four topics that will be addressed by Vision2Action this year.

A second forum called "The State of the Arts" will take place at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Frances and Hyman Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall, Plattsburgh State. A follow-up to this event will be a live call-in edition of Mountain Lake Journal at 8 p.m. Feb. 16.

BluSeed offering 'Adventures in Clay'

SARANAC LAKE — BluSeed Studios will be offering three separate, six-week art programs for young artists in first through eighth grades.

"Adventures in Clay" is designed to inspire young people to explore and discover art through creative projects in clay, drawing and painting. The program explores both hand building and wheel throwing through a string of specific projects, such as a bowl, mug, treasure box, favorite pet and/or a wind chime.

Classes are as follows: BluSeedlings ages 6 to 7 or first and second grades will be on Mondays, Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27, March 5 and 12; BluSeedlings ages 8 to 11 or third to fifth grades will be on Tuesdays, Feb. 7, 14, 21, 28, March 6 and 13; and BluSeedlings ages 12 to 14 or sixth to eighth grades are Thursdays, Feb. 9, 16, 23, March 1, 8 and 15.

The program costs $125 and includes all materials. Partial scholarships are available. For more information and times, call 891-3799.

Fort Ti to host unique weapons presentation

TICONDEROGA — Fort Ticonderoga's new winter series of programs continues at 2 p.m. Feb. 12 with "The Roar of the Musketry and Cracking of Rifles: An Introduction to Weapons of the 18th Century," which will be presented by Chris Fox, curator of collections, in the Deborah Clarke Mars Education Center.

Fox will examine a variety of 18th-century muskets, pistols and swords used by the French, British and American armies during the French & Indian War and American Revolution. Participants will have the unique opportunity to handle these rare objects.
