Essex Theatre Board to meet

ESSEX — The Essex Theatre Company Board of Trustees will meet at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Masonic Lodge in Essex.

The meeting is open to the public.

Buy tickets now for 'Proof'

PLATTSBURGH — Tickets are available now for performances of "Proof," a play by David Auburn set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the Myers Fine Arts Building's Hartman Theatre on the Plattsburgh State campus.

Tickets, $2 for students and $5 for the general public, are available at the Angell College Center information desk.

Adirondack Singers rehearsals to begin

SARANAC LAKE — The Adirondack Singers will begin rehearsals Sept. 14 for the annual Winter Holiday Concert.

Rehearsals, at Adirondack Alliance Church in Saranac Lake, will continue Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:15 until the Dec. 5 concert.

Director Karen Butters has put together a program that features pieces by John Rutter and Morten Lauridsen as well as Scarlatti's "Exultate Deo," "Gesu Bambino" and other Christmas classics. Singers of all abilities are invited to join; no audition necessary.

New singers invited to join chorale

TICONDEROGA — The Champlain Valley Chorale will begin fall rehearsals for Sept. 14 for its 2010 Christmas concerts, with weekly rehearsals at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church, 1045 Wicker St. New singers in all sections are welcomed, and no audition is necessary.

Museum grant to fund consultant

BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE — The Adirondack Museum has won a $3,000 GET SET grant administered by Museumwise. The funds will be used to retain the assistance of museum consultant Marcella Wells, Ph.D., to assist with the creation of a 15-year interpretive plan.

Woodcarving weekend planned

LAKE PLACID — The Northwoods Inn will host the Lake Placid Woodcarving Experience Sept. 17 through 20, offering workshops with nationally recognized carvers.

Clean out the closet for a cause

PLATTSBURGH — Donations of apparel, shoes, handbags and accessories are needed for Frugal Fashionistas, A Night of Retail Therapy, set for Sept. 16 at the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts, 23 Brinkerhoff.

Items must be in perfect condition or new for the event, which will benefit the Strand Theatre Restoration Project. Admission is $50 for the 5 to 6 p.m. Champagne and First to Shop part of the evening and $10 for 6 to 8 p.m. For information, call 563-1604 or e-mail nccca@primelink1.net.

Orchestra fundraising nears goal

BURLINGTON — The Vermont Symphony Orchestra has raised $3.14 million of its endowment campaign goal of $3.5 million.

The orchestra presents 40 concerts around the state and 200 educational outreach programs in Vermont schools each year.
