The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour returns at 7:30 p.m. Sunday for its 11th-annual showing at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts.
It travels to Plattsburgh next, with a selection of winning films screened at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1.
Selected from 305 entries from 20-plus countries, according to a press release, "this year's tour features a collection of the most inspiring and thought-provoking action, environmental and adventure mountain films."
Some highlights include "Take a Seat," which follows a tandem bike rider on a two-year journey from Alaska to South America; "In Hunlen," with ice climbers making a suspenseful first-ascent ice climb of British Columbia's remote Hunlen Falls and "Kranked — Revolve," a high-adrenaline mountain bike journey from the Megavalanche race in the French Alps to the lush coast of British Columbia.
The festival's world tour takes it to more than 285 spots in 30 countries. It is sponsored in Lake Placid by High Peaks Cyclery, the Mirror Lake Inn, Olympic Regional Development Authority and Whiteface.
Tickets for the Lake Placid screening — $18 in advance and $21 at the door — have sold out ahead of time the last seven years, the release said. Buy them at High Peaks Cyclery, 331 Main St., Lake Placid (523-3764); and Lake Placid Center for the Arts (523-2512).
Admission for the Plattsburgh show are free for Plattsburgh State students, $5 for faculty/staff, and $8 for the general public.
