Saranac Lake's Daffest, kicked off over the weekend with music, food, a hat contest and an old-fashioned soap box derby. Events resume Friday and continue next weekend as the festival takes on an artistic tone. Pleinnair artists will be working in and around the village. Here, at the end of the soap box derby in Saranac Lake Saturday, several of the miniature gravity-powered cars, lost control, winding up bumper to bumper, causing a slight delay in the race. Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

SARANAC LAKE — A soapbox derby, face painting and scrumptious hats adorned with daffodils and butterflies were all part of Saturday and Sunday's event.
