Nicky Viti nets 24 points and Erin Hutchinson, 17, to lead the Plattsburgh State women to a school-record 15th victory, 85-53 over Utica/Rome.

Westport's Aimee Marsh joins the 1,000-point club in a 47-17 triumph over Long Lake in the MVAC girls' basketball final.

Peru, trailing by 15, rallies to stun PHS 58-52 in the Section VII boys' basketball tournament. Mike Oertel scores 16 points while Matt St. Clair keys a defense effort that limits Hornet ace Joel Butchino to 12 points.

Emily Devins, Megan Groves, Beth Hutchins and Alexis Webb lead the Malone girls to the Section X Indoor Track & Field championship.

Greg Shaughnessy drops in 28 points as Schroon Lake repeats as MVAC champ with a 73-48 win over Westport. Pat Connell hits for 16 for the Eagles.

Tim Barnewall pours in 37 points to go with 7 rebounds and 6 blocks in Chateaugay's 62-58 win over Parishville-Hopkinton.

Jon Mulholland sinks 2 free throws with no time left to lift PHS to a 37-36 win over Saranac and into a first-place tie with the Chiefs.

Phoebe Decoste, Gwen LaBarre, Kasia Krul, Amy Boulrice and Jody Rounds lead Northern Adirondack to its fifth straight Section VII Class C volleyball title with a 3-1 win over Saranac.

Buffy Strothenke tallies 29 points to lead Schroon Lake past Elizabethtown-Lewis 58-53.

Mike Graney connects on 2 free throws with 16 seconds to play, giving Ticonderoga a 51-50 win over Northern Adirondack. Will Fahey leads the Sentinels with 14 while Jamie Labarge nets 13 for NAC.

Penn State freshman Chris Joyce of Plattsburgh captures the Men's Alpine Skiing Championship for the Allegheny Collegiate Ski Conference, Western Division.

30 YEARS AGO (1982)

Alyssa Harkness hits a field goal with less than a minute to play in the second overtime to give Peru a 43-42 upset of Moriah. Eileen Roach's putback at the end of regulation forces overtime.

Ken Recore hits for 23 points and Tim Coplen, 20, as Dannemora clinches its second straight MVL title with a 91-62 win over Chazy.

Doug Meaker's free throw with no time left gives Westport a 49-48 upset of Elizabethtown-Lewis. Ed Shappy and Don McQueen each chip in with 17 for the Eagles.

Kevin Quinn connects on a turnaround jumper from the left corner with one second left as St. John's hands Ticonderoga its first CVAC setback, 49-47. Bill Brennan leads the Sentinels with 31 points.

Jeff Benjamin pours in 25 points as NAC regains a share of the CVL North lead with a 68-51 triumph over PHS. Russ Keller leads the Hornets with 18.

Plattsburgh's Don West wins the Veterans Class at the U.S. Eastern Amateur Ski Jumping Championships.

50 YEARS AGO (1962)

Dick Nephew of Mooers Forks finishes 17th in the national championship modified sportsman race at Daytona Speedway. Lee Roy Yarborough is first in the 54-car field.

Lake Placid's Corky Colby, Donald Colby and Jay Rand win their respective divisions in ski jumping at the state championships while teammate Jack Vitvitsky claims the nordic combined title.

Will Holland scores 14 points and Walt Holland, 11, as unbeaten St. Joseph's tops MAI 66-48.

Stu Mace hits for 28 points as Crown Point knocks off MVL leader Westport 77-70.

Gerry Barber, Sherman Robare, Norman Peryea and Dick LaBounty register pins for Keeseville in a 26-26 draw with Peru. Clarence McGee, Gerald Bradley and Bruce Cohen win by fall for the Indian wrestlers.

Senior Wayne Lashway is averaging 16.7 points per game for Plattsburgh State.

70 YEARS AGO (1942)

Buddy O'Connell scores 12 points to lead the unbeaten YMCA to a 28-26 win over St. Peter's in the Church League. LaBarge nets 12 for St. Peter's.

Pote scores 22 points and Calkins, 20, as Trinity thumps Methodist 56-12 in the Church League. Scales leads Methodist with 8 points.

Milne and Annis each score 12 points to lead Presbyterian to a 30-23 win over St. John's in the Church League. Phalon scores 7 for St. John's.
