PLATTSBURGH — Stephanie Omlin reached the Section VII girls' tennis singles final in 2009 and 2010.
Seton Catholic's Mary McAuliffe edged her both times.
This year, it was Omlin's moment to shine. The top-seeded Peru senior captured the individual title Tuesday, edging Beekmantown's Emily Carlin in three sets at the Plattsburgh State Field House.
Peru coach James Neyenhouse said Omlin's matches with McAuliffe the past two years prepared her for this year's tournament.
Omlin's win took two hours and 15 minutes to complete, and some rallies exceeded 60 returns.
"The other girls really went after her and made her earn it," Neyenhouse said. "They were really close matches and went down to the wire from start to finish."
No. 1 seeds Kristen Langr and Paige Southwick won the doubles final, beating Lake Placid's Georgie Knox and Natalia Smith, 6-3, 6-4. Langr and Southwick are repeat champions.
Langr is a three-time champion, winning in 2009 with Meaghan Langr.
"I kind of teased them that they are my dream team because for two years that's be the combination where if I need a point in any match they've been unbeatable," Northeastern Clinton coach Dan Gallagher said. "This year has been the toughest doubles field I've seen, so even though they were defending champs, this was the best they've played together."
Mark Price captured the boys' singles title with a win against teammate Eric Mitchell. Price, the No. 1 seed, won in two sets — 6-1, 6-4.
Beekmantown boys' coach Dan Rillahan said it was emotionally difficult for the two to play each other.
"They definitely both played hard and played hard to get there," he said.
It is the third year in a row a Beekmantown athlete has won the boys' singles title. Adam Shearer won it the past two years.
"Good water," Rillahan joked. "We have good athletes, good hardworking athletes, just really super kids that love tennis."
Saranac's Shawn and Corey Bissonette beat Lake Placid's Dolan Riley and Nick Hansen, 6-3, 6-1, to win the boys' doubles title.
The brothers were singles players for the Chiefs in the regular season.
"They played very well," Saranac coach Tim Newell said. "They were consolation winners last year, so they have a little bit of experience and played well together."
In boys' singles and doubles, the winner, runner-up and consolation winner all move on to Thursday's NYSPHSAA Tennis Championships at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows.
The girls' state championships are held in the fall.
Consolation
Seton Catholic's Jang Bin Park won the boys' singles consolation game over Plattsburgh High's Adam Emery, 6-3, 6-3.
Plattsburgh High's Shea Crockett and Danny O'Halloran, the No. 1 seed, won the boys' doubles consolation against Northeastern Clinton's Bobby Marks and Richie Collins in a tightly-contested showdown.
Crocket and O'Halloran won the first set, 7-6, dropped the second and captured the third in a 7-3 tiebreaker.
Alanna Cruz of Northeastern Clinton was the girls' singles consolation winner, beating Saranac's Rachel Leitsch, 6-3, 6-1.
Beekmantown's Alexandra Provost and Bailey Waterbury got past Peru's Samantha Banker and Abby Higgins, 6-1, 6-1, for the girls' doubles consolation.
