BEEKMANTOWN — For the third consecutive year, the Beekmantown Eagle gymnastics team has been crowned Section VII sectional champions after defeating both Peru and Plattsburgh on Saturday.

The Eagles earned a final team score of 159.575 to capture the victory. The Indians came in second place with a score of 148.675 while the Hornets finished third with 144.025.

Alyssa Leonard of Beekmantown came away with the all around victory with a score of 35.325, edging out Plattsburgh's Dalen Keswick, who finished second with a score of 33.0.

Peru was paced by Molly Lawliss, who captured third place in the all around with a score of 31.75.

Leonard won both the beam (9.25) and the floor (9.4) while taking second in the vault (8.275) and the bars (8.4).

Keswick took first in the vault (8.7) and the bars (8.85).

Lawliss captured second place on the floor (8.95) while Beekmantown's Lydia Gricoski took second on the beam (8.75).

State Team Selected

Leonard, Keswick and Lawliss qualify in the all-around to represent Section VII at the state championships at Shaker High School on Feb. 25.

Floor — Olivia Pizarro, Beekmantown; Alexandra Brown, Peru; Kierah Lagrave, Peru. Alternate: Alison Trudo, Beekmantown.
