PLATTSBURGH — Tanner Rascoe bested Jake Richards in a pitcher's duel Friday afternoon as Saranac edged Plattsburgh High, 3-2, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference baseball.

Both pitchers went the distance. Rascoe, just a sophomore, struck out seven, walked one and allowed five hits. Richards, meanwhile, fanned seven walked two and surrendered six hits.

"It was a pitcher's duel," PHS coach Jim Manchester said. "I thought Jake threw very well, but Tanner was just a little bit better. That was the difference, being one run better."

Kasey Favreau's single in the fifth inning broke a two-all tie and was the game-winning hit. With two out, the Chiefs (4-6, 4-2) put together singles by Rascoe, Ben Weightman and Favreau.

PHS (2-6, 2-2) took the lead with a run in the bottom of the first when Jack Tolosky singled and later scored on Chris Roenbeck's single.

Jake Liberty's two-out, two-run single gave Saranac the lead in the second inning before the Hornets tied it in the fourth on Will Love's double and a RBI groundout by Roenbeck.

Rascoe accounted for two of the Chiefs' hits, while Love went 2-for-2 for the Hornets.
