PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh not only avenged an early season loss to Peru with a 64-38 victory Wednesday in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys' basketball, but it also guaranteed itself at least a share of the Division I title.
The Hornets (11-4, 11-2) currently hold a two-game lead over both Saranac and Northeastern Clinton with a pair to play.
Plattsburgh will meet up with the Chiefs on Friday before finishing the regular season against Saranac Lake. A win in either of those games would claim the title for the Hornets.
Ethan Votraw scored a game-high 24 points and Plattsburgh dominated defensively in defeating the Indians.
"The boys took a lot of pride in their defense and forced 27 turnovers," Hornets coach Chris Hartmann said "The kids are finally buying into defense, and playing real, tough defense.
"We knew Peru would play tough. This was probably the most physical CVAC game I have seen, but it was a real good game."
Damon LaBorde chipped in with 10 points in the victory.
Taylor Rock scored a team-high 12 points for Peru (11-5, 8-5). Bret Boyer finished with nine points.

CHAMPLAIN — Keegan Ryan controlled the post, scoring 33 points, as the Eagles edged the Cougars.
"Basically, both post players for our team immediately got into foul trouble, and the bottom line is we had no answer for Keegan Ryan whatsoever," Northeastern Clinton coach Robb Garrand said. "He dominated the rebounds. He had a few blocks. He was very dominant in every sense of the word."
Beekmantown (7-9, 7-6) trailed by four at the half but led 35-33 heading into the fourth.
"There was no separation. They would score; we would score," Garrand said. "They took a lead with 9.8 seconds left — they were ahead by one. We got past half court and were attempting to make our way to the basket, and we turned the ball over."
Rob Armstrong led the Cougars (9-5, 8-4) with 18 points, and Rodney Grimshaw scored 14.
"I was very pleased with Rob Armstrong; he did a good job controlling play," Garrand said. "And I was very pleased with Austin Tetreault, who came off the bench and gave us quality minutes."
