NORWOOD — The Gadway sisters and Kaylie Lamica led the Franklin Academy girls to an impressive victory while the Saranac Lake boys used their speed to slip past Norwood-Norfolk for the team title Saturday in the Northern Athletic Conference track & field invitational.
The Malone girls, with 129 points, finished 59 points in front of runner-up Canton while Saranac Lake and Northeastern Clinton tied for fourth with 45 points. Tupper Lake came in sixth in the 12-team field with 40.
The Saranac Lake boys tallied 92 points to beat out host Norwood-Norfolk and Malone by two points each.
The Gadways provided the only true competition for each other. Ashley Gadway won the shot put by 15 inches and came in third in the discus while Amanda Gadway captured the discus by more than 17 feet and placed second in the shot put. Amanda Gadway was named the top thrower in the girls' meet.
Malone also got a strong showing from Lamica, who won the 400-meter dash by nearly two seconds and placed second in the 400 hurdles and fourth in the 100 hurdles. Her efforts earned top female runner for the meet.
The Huskies also won the 400-meter relay with a team of Kylee Disotelle, Christine Hanna, Ellen Studlack and Bridget Gravel. Studlack added a second in the 200 and third in the high jump while Gravel was third in the long and triple jumps. Samantha Armstrong placed second in the pentathlon.
Tupper Lake's Kyla Kenyon swept the hurdles while Northeastern Clinton's Molly Roush captured both the 800- and 1,500-meter runs. Teammate Celine Bouvier won the 200-meter dash while Mallory Honan, also of NCCS, was second in the 100 hurdles.
Saranac Lake's Vanessa Salamy won the 100-meter dash and came in third in the 200.
The Saranac Lake boys qualified three sprinters for the 100 and 200 dash finals with C.J. Stewart and Ethan Barge finishing 1-2 in the 100 and Josh Quinn, sixth. Barge was third in the 200 with teammates Alex Beaudoin, fifth, and Ben Monty, sixth. Beaudoin, Stewart, Barge and Quinn teamed to win the 400-meter relay. The Red Storm garnered 22 points in the relays with thirds in the 1,600 and 3,200.
Stewart and Mike Brewer gave Saranac Lake a 2-3 finish in the high jump and Dylan Dawson placed second in the 800. Forrest Morgan added a second in the 400 and third in the long jump.
Justin Marlow, who swept the hurdles for Malone, was named the top male runner of the meet. The Huskies also won the distance relay with a foursome of Ian DePuy, Rourk Marlow, Connor Gordon and John Peterson.
