Saranac wins again in indoor track and field

PLATTSBURGH — Micah Patterson and Jake Spear were both part of two wins as the Saranac boys' indoor track and field team took first in the second Champlain Valley Athletic Conference meet of the season Saturday at the Plattsburgh State Field House.

The Chiefs totaled 137.5 points, followed by Peru (92) and Ticonderoga (83).

Alexis Bruno and Victoria Phaneuf led the Saranac girls to first place with 146.5 points. Plattsburgh High took second (109.5), and Peru (75) was third.

Patterson won the 300 meters in 37.9 seconds and was on the Chiefs' winning 640 relay team. Spear was part of that relay and also placed first in the long jump with a distance of 21 feet.

Corey Duval had Saranac's other first-place showing, throwing 49 feet, 9 inches in the shot put.

Peru's Dan Lennon crossed the line first in the 1,000 (2:45.5) and also helped win the 3,200 and 1,600 relays. Teammate Bryce Schnaars had wins in the high jump (6 feet) and the 1,600 relay, while Shawn Hendrix claimed the triple jump with a leap of 44-6.

Saranac Lake's Cole Hyde won the 600 with a time of 1:35.3, and Alex Beaudoin (6.8 seconds) took the 55 dash. Jay Herbert of Ticonderoga was first in the 55 hurdles in 7.7 seconds.

In the distance races, Seton Cathlolic's Bowen Christopher (11:20.3) edged Plattsburgh Borje Wiik by four tenths of a second, and the Hornets' Jericho Gadway (5:25.7) captured the 1,600.

In girls' action, Bruno ran the 1,000 in 3:25.9 to place first and also helped the Chiefs win the 1,600 relay. Phaneuf turned in a throw of 33 feet, 3 inches to win the shot put.

Emma Deshaies of Plattsburgh won the 600 in 1:45.9 and the 3,000 in 11:07.9. The Hornets had two other first-place finishers: Brooke Knight in the long jump (15-5 1/2) and Khila Pecoraro in the triple jump (29-1 1/2) .

Saranac Lake's Nicky Trudeau finished first in the 300 (45.5 seconds) and 55 (7.6) dashes, and Vanessa Salamy (9.3) claimed the 55 hurdles. Both were part of the winning 640 relay.

Melissa Whyman picked up a win for Seton Catholic in the 1,500 with a time of 5:30.5 and was a member of the victorious 3,200 relay team. AuSable Valley's Ashlee Estes took first in the high jump (4-4).
