HERKIMER — After a 5-8 record to start the year, the Clinton Community College men's basketball team is in a bit of rebuilding mode.
The Cougars lost four players from last semester that played solid minutes and will bring three new players into the fold.
Clinton traveled to Herkimer to play one of the top team's in the area and fell, 94-66.
"I thought we played very well early and we had it 23-all with 10 minutes to go in the half," Cougars coach Kevin Daugherty said. "We had two starters get their third foul at that point and Herkimer went on a a pretty good run to end the half.
"In the second half we just couldn't stop them defensively. They were very tough on the glass and we gave up too many extra shots."
Josh Henderson led the way for the Generals with 23 points. Deandre Preaster added 19 points while Michael McCray and Dequan Jefferson each finished with 13.
"We have a revamped team and playing these guys off the bat is tough," Daugherty said. "I like that we played hard and didn't play scared.
"It's tough to say that we got a lot out of a 30-point loss, but I think that we did."
Chris Miller led all scorers with 28 points for the Cougars. Zach Basso chipped in with 14 points and Daiquane Sivels added nine.
Sal Fabozzi had a strong floor game for Clinton, dishing out 12 assists.
"We took care of the basketball," Daugherty said. "Fabozzi did really good against full-court pressure the entire game.
"We didn't beat ourselves. The kids played really hard."
The Cougars play at Columbia-Greene Saturday at 2 p.m.
