High school tennis clinic starts Sunday
PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh State is hosting a high school varsity tennis clinic during the college’s spring break.
The clinic is for high school tennis players who have or will play for a varsity team in 2013. The session dates/times are: Sunday from 2-5 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 5-7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 2-5 p.m.
Cost is $100 for the entire session or $10 an hour per player. The clinic is being run by Mark Stata, Plattsburgh State women’s tennis coach. The clinic will focus on technical and tactical skills, and doubles and singles strategy.

Rifle League results for Week 7
PLATTSBURGH — The Rough Riders Rifle team came in third this week in the Vermont Winter Postal League.
Jamestown outshot them by one point, 1566-1565, for the first time this season. The Rough Riders were led by Peter Visconti (394) and Frank Richards (393)
The Jr. Rough Riders came in 10th this week, le by the shooting of Andrew Visconti (376).

Whiteface Club ranked 12th in state
LAKE PLACID — Whiteface Club & Resort was ranked No. 12 in the state by Golfweek Magazine in its March 8, 2013 edition.
The Whiteface Club is classified as a classic course. Their golf team features, J. Peter Martin, Ron Reid, Corey Reid, bob McCalvin, Randy Patterson and Mike Sabatini.

ACT International 500 event richest purse in history
PLATTSBURGH — American Canadian Tour officials have announced that the Inaugural ACT International 500 to be held at Airborne Speedway on the weekend of July 20-21 will exceed a total purse of $140,000, making it the richest event in ACT’s 28-year history.

Special Olympics basketball practice March 19
KEESEVILLE — The Clinton/Essex Special Olympics basketball team and skills team will practice Tuesday evenings starting March 19.

WCS hosting 9-pin bowling tourney
WESTPORT — Westport Central School is hosting a four-person team 9-pin bowling tournament at the Willsborough Bowling Center April 20 beginning at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. (if needed) to support the Westport Central School Wall of Distinction.
Cost is $25 per player ($100 per team) and includes three games of bowling and prizes for first, second and third place. Checks and entry forms must be received no later than April 12.
