YMCA golf tourney Friday

PLATTSBURGH — The 11th annual Plattsburgh YMCA Golf Tournament sponsored by U First Credit Union will be held Friday at Adirondack Golf and Country Club.

The format is a four-person scramble with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Prizes will be awarded for low gross and low net scores. There are also hole-in-one, closest to the pin (men and women), longest drive (men and women) and putting contest.

Sponsors are still welcome and the cost for individuals for Adirondack members is $60 and $70 for nonmembers. The price includes golf, cart, dinner and prizes.

Proceeds from the tournament go toward financial assistance for families in summer camps, school age child care, youth sports and other programs families need.

Duniho, Duprey lead bike time trials

POINT AU ROCHE — Kevin Duniho turned out the fastest time of the night on August 1, posting a 22:26 time in the 10-mile event as the weekly bicycle time trials. Duniho was followed by Jerry Macner and Mary Duprey, the first female, who tied for second place with 24:33 and by Jay Ruff in 25:00. Lynne Murray was the second female in 25:56 and Susanna Piller in third with a 26:09.

Shannan Keysor posted a 13:42 in the 5-mile event.

The time trials, with distances of five, 10 and 25 miles, take place on Wednesday nights at the Point au Roche Firehouse on the Lakeshore Road. The event is free and open to all novice and experienced riders, road bikes or mountain bikes. Helmets are mandatory and all riders must obey the rules of the road. Sign-ups start at 5:30 p.m., with the first rider going off at 6 p.m. Riders interested in the 25-mile event should be prepared to start between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m.

Lifeguard course offered

PLATTSBURGH — The Department of Sport and Wellness is offering a non-credit Lifeguard Training Course on Sundays from Sept. 9-Nov. 18 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Students must pass pre-swim test given first class and there will be no classes on Oct. 7.

The cost is $225 that includes all class materials and Red Cross fees.
