National Jr. hockey camp starts today

LAKE PLACID — Forty-five of the United States’ best hockey players under the age of 20 will take part in USA Hockey’s National Junior Evaluation Camp today through Aug. 11. The players will be auditioning for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship.

The camp at the Olympic Center’s 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena includes practices, intrasquad scrimmages and international games. The U.S. will play Finland at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8, and Sweden at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9. It will close the camp with another game against Finland at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11. Finland and Sweden will meet at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10.

Tickets for each game are $8 for adults (ages 13 to 64) and $5 for juniors (7 to 12) and seniors (65 and older). Children six and under are free. An all-event ticket to see each of the nine games and scrimmages is $50 for adults and $35 for juniors and seniors. Tickets will be available at the door.

 

PSU soccer team to offer training camp

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team will be sponsoring a pre-season training camp for high school soccer players.

Forty girls and 40 boys will be accepted, and there will be four goalkeepers per group. The camp, which is a fundraiser for the PSU team, will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. August 6 through August 10 at the PSU Field House. It will be run by the Plattsburgh State staff and players. The cost is $75 for the week, and each athlete must bring his or her ball.
