Storm, Eagles battle to draw

SARANAC LAKE — The Beekmantown boys' hockey team wrapped up the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference hockey title last week.

But as Monday's game will show, the Eagles will have no easy road once the playoffs roll around.

Saranac Lake, the reigning Section VII champion, battled Beekmantown to a 1-all tie at the Saranac Lake Civic Center.

In an earlier season meeting, the Eagles earned a narrow 6-5 win.

On Monday, Kyle Dora put the Red Storm (10-7-1, 5-3-1) on the board first with an unassisted goal late in the first period.

After a scoreless second, Nate Foster got the equalizer on an unassisted score five minutes into the third.

"We went into overtime and it was a pretty defensive battle," Saranac Lake coach Will Ellsworth said. "Both teams at times played very complacent. There was some really good flow at times, and it had a feeling of a playoff game."

Blake Darrah finished with 24 saves for Saranac Lake. Dustin Plumadore had 25 minding the net for Beekmantown (15-1-3, 7-0-2).

LAKE PLACID — Eddie Kane's second-period goal put the Blue Bombers up for good.

Thompson put the Blue Bombers up 1-0 on an unassisted goal 6:39 into the first.

Saranac tied it with less than three minutes left in the period when Jeff Kurz lit the lamp. Kyle Erickson and T.J. Orrichio assisted.

Kane's goal put Lake Placid back in the lead, with Damp and Jacques adding some security in the third.

"The first period I think both teams were feeling each other out, and we played better in the third period," Lake Placid coach Keith Clark said. "We got a little more action in front of their net and picked up some rebounds. The third period was our best period for sure."

Keegan Barney added two assists for the Blue Bombers, and Jeffry Smith made 11 saves in net.

Zach Lareau turned away 18 shots for the Chiefs (3-12, 1-8).
