Bouyer, Carder lead Saints over Cougars

SARANAC LAKE — Gene Bouyer scored 32 points and dished out seven assists as North Country Community College men's basketball moved above .500 with a 93-72 victory over Clinton Community College Wednesday.

The Saints jumped out to a 19-3 lead to start the game, including connecting on five three's during that stretch. The Cougars, however, rallied to pull within 10 points at the half.

"It was a 12-to-16 lead for most of the game," North Country coach Chad LaDue said. "We put pressure on at the beginning of the second half and around the 13 minute mark I felt good at where we were.

"The biggest thing is that every recruiting class I have had has beaten Clinton at least once. We needed this win for our sophomores to be able to do that."

Steve Carder chipped in with 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Saints (13-12). Darien Briscoe finished with 10 points.

"This was a big game for us," LaDue said. "It's always a tough game when these two teams get together. Kevin (Daugherty) always has his guys prepared and ready to play.

"Gene handled the ball for us a lot tonight and played very well. Carder gave us another workman's effort. This was a tough game for him with so many guards on the floor, but he really stayed it with it and played well."

Sal Fabozzi and Chris Miller each tallied 16 points to lead the way for Clinton. Vince Carter added 13 points while Zach Basso finished with 12 points.

North Country hits the road for a 1 p.m. contest Saturday at Columbia-Greene. Clinton, meanwhile, travels to Mohawk Valley for a 5 p.m. game Saturday.
