Sapp places seventh in nordic race

STOWE, Vt. — Beekmantown's Maile Sapp placed seventh in the 5km classic nordic race for the J1 class this past weekend at the TD Bank Eastern Nordic Cup and UVM Carnival.

Over 500 of the best nordic skiers in the east competed at the Trapp Family Lodge.

Volleyball teams compete in tourneys

SARANAC — The Northern Impact Collision and Super-fly volleyball teams competed at the VolleyFX Hocus Pocus Tournament in Rochester on January 28 and 29. Super-fly took first place in its playoffs on the second day of competition, while Collision fell short on Sunday after being seeded first in its division.

On February 5, the Collision, Rush and Super-fly traveled to central New York to compete in the Caroga Lake Tournament. Rush and Collision didn't break pool play, while Super-fly came up short in the semifinals.

Beekmantown to hold volleyball academy

BEEKMANTOWN — The Beekmantown Booster Club will run a spring volleyball academy (February through June) for junior varsity and varsity level athletes. The next session will begin Saturday. Registration is at 11:45 a.m. and the academy will run from noon to 2 p.m.

Winterfest curling results announced

WEST PLATTSBURGH — The Pickled Livers won the Winterfest 2012 Curling Championship for the second year in a row, beating out 31 other teams in the two-rink competition.

The winning team consisted of Matt St. Clair, Matt Bruno, "Big O" and Paul Bruno. Each team member received a trophy and foam curling hat.

Clancy's Curlers, consisting of Pat Clancy, Phil St. Clair, Carl Benware and Chris Hartman, finished second, while The Nibblers, consisting of Jordan Keleher, Brandon Keleher, Pat Keleher and James Currier, were third. All were awarded trophies, provided by Labatt Blue.

SUNYAC honors PSU's Driscoll, Depo

PLATTSBURGH — Ben Depo and Kelley Driscoll of the Plattsburgh State track and field teams have been named SUNY Athletic Conference male and female track athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 6.

Kelley Driscoll won the 3,000-meter run at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic with an ECAC-qualifying time of 10:26.02, which was also a personal best. The sophomore out of Geneva, N.Y. finished 20 seconds ahead of the remaining 15 runners in the field.

Ben Depo placed fourth behind three Division I athletes in the heptathlon at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational. The Saranac, N.Y. native set a new school record with a score of 4,622 points. With his performance over the weekend, Depo is now ranked first in the ECAC and is sixth on the Division III leaderboard. Big Daddy's Rabbit Derby Feb. 18, 19

REDFORD — The 5th Annual Big Daddy's Hunting Club Rabbit Derby will be held on Feb. 18 and 19.

Entry tickets are $12 and include two dinners.Takeouts are available. Tickets are available at C+S Bait and Tackle. There will be a Texas hold'em tournament on Friday night. Contact Larry Pellerin, Jr. at 293-7218 for more info. Corporate Challenge at Beartown

PLATTSBURGH — Come and ski race for fun at Beartown Ski Area at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 3 in the Corporate Challenge. There will be prizes, food and a bon fire for all ages and abilities.

Teams of four will race in a giant slalom course against each other for a shot at prizes. Each team must have at least one female. If you want to race but don't have a team, you can still attend and be placed on a team. All proceeds go to Beartown Ski Area.
