DELHI — Kiyanna Edwards hit a game-winning layup at the buzzer to lift Clinton Community College past SUNY Delhi, 52-51, in a wild women's basketball game Sunday.
The Cougars (14-5) came back from a six-point deficit in the final three minutes and received some timely missed free throws from the Broncos to rebound from a tough loss Saturday to Fulton-Montogmery Community College.
Ruth Paul led the way with 11 points and 22 rebounds. Emily Decker scored a team-high 13 points for Clinton, and Ashley Whitty added seven points and pulled down seven rebounds
On Saturday, the Cougars battled back from a 19-point deficit, but the Raiders were able to hit free throws to seal the game.
The Broncos were not so fortunate at the stripe.
Delhi led 47-41 with 2:56 left in the game. Decker hit five free throws to keep it close, but the Broncos were able to retain a 51-46 lead with 51 seconds left.
Clinton had been employing a full-court press in the final two minutes, and with 45 seconds left Edwards got a steal and layup to get within three.
Twenty-seven seconds later, Decker got fouled following a Clinton steal and cut the deficit to one.
The Broncos got back to the line with nine seconds but missed both free throws, followed by a pair of missed free throws by Clinton with a chance to grab the lead or tie.
"We fouled right away," Clinton coach Donna Dixon said. "With eight seconds left, they missed both free throws. We got the rebound, kicked it up to Kiyanna, fed her a screen at midcourt. She took it right through, made a double-pump move and made a layup right at the buzzer.
"It was a great game, a great finish."
Katrina Garrand added five assists, four steals, three points and a block for the Cougars.
Tequilla Lloyd led Delhi with 15 points, and Renee Craft and Pam Sosa each chipped in with 10.

DELHI — The Cougars remained close with the No. 10-ranked Broncos but lost too many players to fouls in their second loss in as many days.
Quayshaun Mitchell led Delhi with a game-high 18 points. Jonathan Hurtado chipped in with 10.
The Cougars led through much of the first half against nationally-ranked Delhi, and the Broncos got their first lead of the game with a bucket at the buzzer before the half to take a 34-32 lead into intermission.
Delhi put together runs in the second half, but Clinton continued to battle back
The Cougars were down just four points with four minutes left. But not long after they were down four players who fouled out.
"Foul trouble ended up doing us in," Clinton coach Kevin Daughterty said. "Moral victories don't count as wins, but after our poor play yesterday at Fulton-Montgomery, we were really concerned how we were going to handle (Sunday), but an outstanding job — really proud of the kids."
Zach Basso paced the Cougars with 16 points, and Chris Miller had 14.
"We had a very gritty performance by Sal Fabozzi at the point, very few turnovers against that pressure," Daugherty said. "Matt Spencer had his best game yet this season with eight points, seven rebounds and four blocks."
