Franklin Academy boys second, girls third in invitational

CANTON — The Franklin Academy boys' and girls' indoor track and field teams had strong showings at the Northern Athletic Conference Invitational Saturday at St. Lawrence University.

The Franklin Academy men's team finished second while the girls' team took third.

Athletes from Section VII schools Saranac, Peru, Plattsburgh High, AuSable Valley and Seton Catholic also participated in the event, with several getting strong finishes.

Hilton High, from the Rochester area, earned the top spot in both the girls' and boys' results.

The Franklin Academy boys' team took first place in two events.

Corey Lamere, Doug Fitzgerald, Rourk Marlow and Morgan Marlow teamed up to win the 3,200 relay in 8:31.2.

Morgan Marlow added an individual win in the 1,600 run, crossing the finish line in 4:33.

The Saranac boys' team, which finished fourth in the team standings, got three first-place finishes.

Micah Patterson won the 600 in 1:24.3. The Chiefs had two winners in the field events — Jake Spear in the long jump (19-8.25) and Corey Duval in the shot put (48-0.5).

Barrett Waling led the Seton Catholic boys' team with a victory in the 3,200, finishing in 10:09.1.

Shawn Hendrix had the top finish for Peru, taking second in the long jump (43.4).

Skyler Barriere led Plattsburgh High with a third-place finish in the 55 dash in 6.8 seconds.

AuSable Valley's Paul Ford took fourth in the high jump (5-6) and James Rock also grabbed a fourth-place finish in the long jump (18-7.75).

The Franklin Academy girls' team had its best performance of the season with 15 person-best times/distances.

The Huskies had two first-place finishes. Kylee Disotelle, Morgan Bronner, Carrie Pomainville and Rebekkah Bond won the 1,600 relay in 4:25.6.

Disotelle added a victory in the 55 hurdles, clocking in a 9.2 seconds.

Hannah Klossner posted the lone victory for Tupper Lake, winning the high jump (5-0).

Among Section VII athletes, Peru's Ashley Leta had the best day with two first-place finishes. She captured the 600 in 1:41.8 and won the 1,000 in 3:14.1.

Saranac's Victoria Phaneuf finished first in the shot put (34-8) as the Chiefs finished fifth as a team.

Plattsburgh High's Jackie Moore finished second in the shot put (28-11.75) and AuSable Valley's Raychel Agoney took third (28-09.5) to give Section VII athletes a 1-2-3 sweep in the event.

Margaret Champagne paced the Seton Catholic girls' with two fourth-place finishes in the 3,000 (11:25.4), and she teamed with Phoebe Christopher, Melissa Whyman and Maddy Munn in the 3,200 relay.
