Fishing derby winners announced
PLATTSBURGH — Winners have been announced in the recent Fishin' For a Mission derby.
Brian Kourofsky Jr. took first place (14 ounces), second (12.5 ounces) and third (12.5 ounces) in the perch category All were caught on Chateaugay Lake.
James Follette took first place (8 pounds, .25 ounces) and second (6 pounds, .45 ounces) in the trout category. Tom McCauley was third (5 pounds, .90 ounces). All was caught on Chazy Lake.
Winners in the pike category were Matt Gilmore in first (16 pounds), Jake Tolosky second (8 pounds, .65 ounces) and Mike Holmes third (6 pounds, .25 ounces). All were caught on Chateaugay Lake.
LaBier rolls 300 game at North Bowl
PLATTSBURGH — Randy LaBier, bowling for Super Team 8 in the Weekenders League on Jan. 28 at North Bowl Lanes, tossed a 300 game and finished the evening with a 238-237-300-775 series. LaBier carries a 214 average in the league.
Gehrke wins Semi Pro Champ class
EAGLE RIVER, Wi. — Dusty Gehrke of Morrisonville won the Semi Pro Champ class at the World Championship Snowmobile Derby in Eagle River, Wi on the weekend of Jan. 20-22.
Gehrke, a Peru graduate, took second Friday in the first of two Semi Pro finals. It was a narrow race, with Gehrke trailing by just four seconds midway through the 10-lap race. He finished second, just .019 seconds behind the winner.In Sunday's race, Gehrke won by a wide margin.
Gehrke, who has been racing since he was 3, will be heading to Manitowaning, Ont. this weekend to compete in an Eastern Pro Tour event. Gehrke won the main event at that location last year.
Sportsmen's Fishing Derby Feb. 18-19
ROUSES POINT — The Rouses Point Sportsmen's Club 18th Annual Ice Fishing Derby is set for February 18-19.
The fishing hours will be from midnight on Saturday through 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. The boundary lines are: New York- mouth of the Great Chazy River north to the Canadian Border; Vermont- Kelly Bay north to the Canadian border.
Weigh station hours at Rouses Point Sportsmen's Club will run from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The entry fee is $15 with tickets being sold at The Last Resort, Lake Champlain Fish Company and Cornerstone Drug.
First place for northern pike receives $350. Second place is $150 and third place is $100. There is a $50 first-place prize for pickerel.
There will also be a fish fry/chowder/membership drive following the closing of the weigh station on Sunday at The Last Resort. It is free of charge for club members and derby participants depending on the fish donations from the weigh station. The cost for all others is $5.
Area athletes named to NSCAA All-State team
KANSAS CITY — Four Section VII boys' soccer players were named to the National Soccer Coaches of America Small School All-State soccer team.
Willsboro senior forward Clay Sherman was named to the first team. Sherman was named the Northern Soccer League Division II MVP this season as he tallied 26 goals and two assists.
Matt Letourneau, a Northeastern Clinton senior defenseman, made the second team. Letourneau first-team NSL Division I all star. A strong defender, he also finished the season with seven assists.
Chazy senior midfielder Jordan Barriere earned a spot on the third team. Barriere helped Chazy win another Section VII Class D title as the Eagles advanced to the state title game. He had seven goals and 14 assists.
Rounding out the Section VII selections was Beekmantown senior defender Keon Jahanbakhsh. Jahanbakhsh was a defensive leader for the Eagles.
St. Mary's Academy hoop tourney needs one more team

Aveson snags third-straight ECAC weekly award
CENTERVILLE, Mass. — Sydney Aveson of the Plattsburgh State women's hockey team has been named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's West Goalie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 29. This is the third-straight week Aveson has been recognized and her fourth time this season.
The junior goaltender continued her outstanding January by stopping 77 shots over two games against a then-ranked No. 3 Elmira squad that entered the weekend without a conference loss. In a 4-1 win on Saturday, Aveson made 44 saves. She followed that with a 33-save performance in Sunday's 2-1 loss.
USASA Adirondack slopestyle results
LAKE PLACID — The Adirondack region of the United States of America Snowboard Association held its second slopestyle competition of the year in the Brookside terrain Park at Whiteface Mountain this past Sunday, Jan. 29.
Skiers and snowboarders competed on a course made up of jumps, rails, and boxes to try and win the regional title and earn points towards the 22nd USASA Nationals at season's end in Copper Mt., CO.

Pomainville wins Cue Club tourney
PLATTSBURGH — Twenty-eight of the top pool players from Plattsburgh, Malone, Hogansburg, Cornwall and Tupper Lake competed in a double elimination 8 ball tournament at the Cue Club on professional 9' Olhausen tables on Sunday, Jan. 29.
The tournament was won by Norm Pomainville. Dar Arquette took second, Dennis Ryan third and Billy Arquette fourth.

Rifle League week two results
PLATTSBURGH — The Rough Riders of the Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club set a team record this week but were out shot by the Whitehall Rifle Club, 1565-1554.
The Rough Riders were led by Peter Visconti's score of 394 and Frank Richards of Mooers contributed by shooting a personal-best of 392. The Plattsburgh Aces came in third this week shooting a team record of 1507. The Rough Riders practice at the Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club, the Junior Team shoots at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Advanced shooters shoot on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. and open pistol shooting is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

LP Toboggan Championships set for Feb. 18
LAKE PLACID — The 45th Annual North American Toboggan Championships will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Lake Placid Tobaggan Chute.
Registration is at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary. The event, sponsored by Lake Placid Lions Club, Saratoga Eagle, Genesee Beer, Monster Energy, will send give all proceeds to the Lake Placid Lions Club.
B'town PeeWee wrestling sign-ups Feb. 7, 9
BEEKMANTOWN — Beekmantown PeeWee Wrestling sign-ups and practice will be held at Beekmantown Elementary School for students in grades first through eighth at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, and Thursday, Feb. 9.
Practice will follow sign-ups until 7:15 p.m. Practices will be held from 6 to 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday each week, with the first tournament being Beekmantown's on Saturday, March 3, at Beekmantown High School.
