Westport exacts revenge against Orange

WESTPORT — Willa McKinley poured in 25 points Friday night to power Westport to a 41-24 win over Indian Lake/Long Lake in a battle of division leaders in Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference girls' basketball.

Friday's game was a rematch of last year's Section VII Class D finals where the Orange recorded a 40-24 win over the Eagles.

McKinley scored 17 of her points in the first half as Westport (13-1, 11-1) raced out to a 25-17 lead. The Eagles then went on an 11-2 run in the third quarter to break the game open.

Allison Sherman added 12 points for Westport, ranked seventh in the state, while Mallory Sudduth dished out five assists and Karin Dorsey added six rebounds.

"We played fantastic team defense tonight," Westport coach Hokie McKinley said. The Eagles held the Orange to a combined seven points in the second half.

Meg Smith scored eight points for Indian Lake/Long Lake (12-2, 10-2), ranked 14th in the state.

Crown Point 38 Chazy 34

CHAZY — It was a tale of two halves as the Panthers held off the Eagles. Crown Point took a 24-5 halftime lead before Chazy outscored the Panthers by a 29-14 margin in the second half to fall four points short.

Marissa Titus led the Panthers (9-5, 8-3) with 18 points, while Julianne Glebus and Alexis Holman added eight each.

Megan Reynolds tallied 16 points, including 15 in the second half, and Olivia Seymour finished with 10, with eight coming in the second half, for the Eagles (7-8, 6-6).

ELIZABETHTOWN — Three players scored in double figures to lead the 15th-ranked Lions.

Kearstin Ashline tallied 10 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Jasmin Barnes scored 10 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had five steals.

Shonna Brooks added 10 points, and Kylee Cassavaugh finished with four points, six assists, five steals, three rebounds and two blocks.

Elizabethtown-Lewis (13-2, 11-1) held a 31-18 lead, but Keene whittled the deficit down to five entering the fourth quarter. The Lions responded by outscoring the Beavers 16-4 in the final stanza.

Sadie Holbrook scored a team-high 11 points for Keene (1-10, 1-9), and Olivia Jaques added 10.

Lindsay Reynolds added 10 points for Schroon Lake (2-9, 2-8), which held a 20-16 lead at the half.

Karlie Tomlinson paced Wells (2-9, 2-9) with 12 points. Macala Vrooman had 10 points and 14 rebounds, and Desi Gallup added eight points, eight rebounds and four steals.
