PLATTSBURGH — The Adams Glass and Plattsburgh Senior Babe Ruth teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader Wednesday at Lefty Wilson Field.
They did — sort of.
Adams Glass scored a run in the top of the 15th inning to outlast Plattsburgh, 3-2, in what was one of the longest high school level games in recent memory. Understandably, the second game of the twinbill was not played.
Both teams squandered a multitude of scoring chances before Adams Glass broke a 2-all tie in the 15th. Austin Medeiros’ infield grounder drove in what proved to be the game-winning run.
Plattsburgh held a 2-0 lead after three innings before Adams Glass scored one in the fifth and one in the seventh to tie it and force extra innings.
Luis Pepen Matos struck out eight and did not allow a run in going the final five innings for the pitching win. Starter Nick Demarais surrendered two runs and fanned three in three innings and Kyle House went seven innings of relief, not allowing a run and striking out eight. Adams Glass pitchers threw 226 total pitches.
Plattsburgh starter Brady Burleigh whiffed seven and was charged with two runs in pitching into the seventh inning, while Jonas Miller struck out seven in four innings of scoreless relief. Kyle Erickson took the tough loss as he allowed just the one run and fanned three in five innings. Plattsburgh pitchers combined to throw 214 pitches.
Conor Casey swung the big bat for Adams Glass (8-11-1) with four hits, including a double. Nick Uliva, Nick Demarais and Medeiros added two hits each, while House, Garrett McLean and Ryan McCall each had a single.
Jonas Miller paced Plattsburgh (0-8) with two doubles and a RBI, while Erickson added a double and single. Jordan Gillespie and Alex Maston rapped out two hits apiece, while Andrew Tedford doubled. Burleigh, Durgan Zappala and Matt Corrow each chipped in with a single.
