GLENS FALLS — Everything went wrong for the Clinton County Senior Mariners in the third inning of Wednesday’s game.
Shrub Oak scored nine runs in the inning and went on to record an 11-1, 6-inning victory, sending the Mariners to 0-2 in the Coopers Cave American Legion Tournament.
“It was a 2-1 game take away that inning,” said Mariners coach John Flynn.
“But we had too many walks, a couple of errors and some hits mixed in. We didn’t play good baseball in that inning.”
J.T. Ginovese allowed four hits and struck out eight in going the distance for the pitching win.
“He was good, but not that good,” said Flynn.
Robby Knowles rapped a RBI single in the first inning for the Mariners, while Will Flynn, C.J. Worley and Kasey Favreau added a single each. Ginovese only allowed two hits over the first five innings and then gave up two in the sixth.
Brandon Rabideau, relieved by Jake Richards in the third inning, was the losing pitcher.
“We were coming off such a good weekend when we won a tournament,” said Flynn.
“But we haven’t swung the bats well the last two days and we’re not getting the pitching. We just haven’t gotten it done.”
The Mariners will look to right the ship today when they play a couple of Rhode Island teams — North Kingston at 9 a.m. and East Riverside at noon.

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. — The Vermont Outlaws broke a 1-all tie with three runs in the fourth inning on the way to a win over the Clinton County Junior Mariners.
“We struggled again to put anything together offensively,” said Mariners coach Gary Duquette. “Our defense is also still sub par. We didn’t have a whole lot of fire tonight.”
The Mariners (7-10) outhit the Outlaws, 5-4, with Quenton Barber leading the way with two singles. Brandon Buksa and Blake Altizer each tripled, while Tanner Rascoe added a double.
Clinton County scored its lone run in the third when Buksa tripled and Adam Goldfarb hit a sacrifice fly.
Andrew Kneussle, relieved by Buksa in the fifth inning, took the loss.
The Mariners will compete in the Colchester Junior Cannons Tournament this coming weekend and play Tri-County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in their first game.
“We’re going with Quenton Barber, Tanner Rascoe and Ryan Meyer on the mound for the three games and we’re going to see what we’re made of.”
