GUILDERLAND — Lake Placid's Arthur Griffin carded a 78-77-155 over two days at the Western Turnpike Golf Course to take first place in the boys ages 13 to 15 division at the 2011 Northeastern New York Section Junior PGA Championship.
The two-day event, held Saturday and Sunday, was presented by Under Armour and Heritage F.S.E.
Griffin trailed Glenmount's Jeff Palmerino by six strokes entering Sunday's second round.
But, Palmerino shot an 84 to finish with a two-day score of 72-84-156, with Griffin rallying for a one-stroke victory.
Winning the boys' 16 to 18 division was Delmar's Victor Fox with a 71-73-144. The girls' 16 to 18 winner was Latham's Bailey Cocca with a 78-78-156.
Griffin's score was the third lowest in either division.
Griffin, a freshman at Northwood School, was a part of the school's first varsity golf team since the 1950s this year.
As an eighth grader at Lake Placid High School, he set the Section VII golf championship record last spring.
Dustin Fischer, a freshman at Saranac Lake, finished seventh in the 13 to 15 age division with an 88-79-167.
Fischer helped the Red Storm to an unbeaten 10-0 record in league play as Saranac Lake won the regular season title.
